Emf - Children
Ah EMF what a raft of teenage memories rush through me when I hear their songs. This one particularly reminds me of driving fast (but still legally fast) and then when the police sirens kick in, speeding up (while still remaining legal). Even now I want to jump around like Bernard Black dancing when I hear them. Epsom mad funsters Exstacy mother fuckers Whatever your true name I salute your music
Heading into the supercontext
The bright lights of the universe were flying past the windows as the man looked out. Here he was falling towards the super context and the worst part was that he did not really know what the super context was. All he did know was that there was one and he was heading towards it. The search for an instruction manual had proved fruitless. Surely he was not the only person who didn’t know...
Better Days
I suppose this is a wee bit if a follow on from yesterday. This is not my favourite Springsteen song but the lyrics are spot on in describing how I feel. Life is generally good for me right now and the line “I’m tired of sitting here waiting for my life to begin while it is all just slipping away” is how I’ve been feeling for a while. Things need to start happening for me...
10 days to go
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZXndClGJDE&feature=youtube_gdata_player This song will always have a special place in my heart. The band are one of my favourites, the lyrics are the usual standard of great images and a friend of mine said that this track and the line “wear your hair in bunches” made her think of me. So this video is not the official one but it does show the manics...
The Cure - Pictures of you
A song full of sadness, regret, pain and loss. Yet it manages to be beautiful in its own way. This song is one of my favourite Cure tracks. From its long intro through Robert Smiths voice intoning the lyrics with meaning and feeling, right through to the ending where hope has seemingly gone but there is something that just lifts you (or at least me) right at the end. Its a very emotionally...
Aberdeens Union Terrace Gardens
http://misssymartin.blogspot.com/2012/02/worried-of-aberdeen.html The above is a link to a very good blog post (from an excellent blogger) . It deals with what seems like Aberdeen City Council ignoring the democratic process re the upcoming union terrace gardens referendum. Please read this and make up your own mind.
Judge Dredd the Bod tv special
You may have to be British and of a certain age to get this. However if you do get it, this is an awesome link
Down in the park
I love this track. Dark, moody and full of dread. It still sounds brilliant now as it must have done then (I got into Mr Numans music late). This is a great live version and is my tune for a Friday. Have a great weekend people.

Be in a music video
A couple of years ago Mr Hibbett did the same for his Xmas song I am in it around the 30 sec mark This made me happier than you could believe. So he is doing it again. Go on, do a little bit of good and submit a video. You never know!
Radiohead - Street Spirit
I am by no means a big Radio head fan but I love this song. The video amazed me when I first saw it, not entirely sure why now! It is still eerie though. Also for some reason the guitar reminds me of a trailer for the first Silent Hill game.
A wee stream of consciousness
The song had just ended and the phone music player switched to another random track. As the bass line started he had already zoned out. The last track had left a sadness within him that the new music was unable to breach. It had Bern a song that he had heard many times before, he had even danced and hung along in numerous clubs over the years but today it had made him sad. Maybe it was the time of...
Strangers in Paradise
Strangers in Paradise, pocket edition 3, Page 157. Simply powerful, emotional and moving writing. I love comics.
Burst Fiction randomness part the first
“If you could travel back in time, back tto when you were a lad. Would you give your younger self any advice for their future?” To be honest it was not the conversation starter I expected when I had went to work that day but it was a Tuesday morning and outside the rain was hammering off the windows. That made it as good a day as any to be asked strange questions. Putting a hand...
2012 and all that
I really should get back into regular writing this year. Even if I only do some short burst fiction every couple of days, that would keep the creative juices flowing and bubbling. The first one will appear in a wee bit. it came from a walk to work i had when i walked past a man who looked very much like a friend of mine but a lot older.

So you want to write a novel?
Well just sit down and write it then…. What? You want more? Fine. Back in 2007, I took part on NaNoWriMo for the very first time. It really was the best way for me to have a structure I could stick to and motivation to not give up when the going got tough. I wrote this guide for those planning to have a go back in 2009. So I present it again for those of you who may want to give...

My thoughts on the New DC 52 so far
After Dc announced this a few months back, I admit I was quite annoyed. Not so much the reboot of histories or even the costumes. I was annoyed because I could not see a genuine reason for this. Why throw away the loyalty of some of their fans in an attempt to hopefully bring in new ones. Anyway after I had my rant on twitter about this, I sat down with the previews catalougue and marked...
Five to two
My mind is racing, keeping me awake. My body craves sleep but there is too much static to allow me to relax. The thought of getting up just now, seems very tempting but would be silly come the cold light of day. Outside the city is slowly getting quieter. I wish my mind would do the same.

Operation Gideon Stargrave
The stage had been set and the pictures had been drawn. The only way to change the future was to amend the present. To take something and pack it away, maybe forever, maybe for only a little while. Yet this was the only way to achieve his aims, this he was certain of.
So he had lain the clothes on the bed, all pressed and ready for the new day, the new him. Together they looked as if they had...

Friday music - My Chemical Romance with Na Na Na
The official video for this makes me giddy. It is weird and features Grant Morrison. This is not as good a bid but the track is still all kinds of awesome. Turn it up loud, play unfairly and happy Friday everyone.
Music you love from bands you don't like
There are many bands and musicians I don’t like, for one reason or another. Occasionally they produce a song that is pure magical beauty that I have to put my dislike aside and just revel in the wonder. This is one of those songs Enjoy.
Who is Dan?
See the full gallery on Posterous Walking along through Edinburgh when I saw this sign and the question scrawled onto the pavement. Random stuff like this makes me smile.

The Fall - The Classical
I first saw theFall on or around my 32nd birthday. I knew very little about the band but was taken by some friends as a treat. My marriage had ended and they wanted to cheer me up. I had been told many stories about Mark E Smith and looked forward to seeing if he would fight with the band. They came on (after a performance poet whose name I forget) and I saw this beautiful elfin girl take her...
Friday wake up music. VNV nation - Art of conflict
This should be listened to loud….very loud. It will blast your brain matter into wake mode. Good morning world.
All we want from you are the kicks you've given...
We all have them. Tunes that smack us around the face the first time we hear them. Force us to really listen, really absorb the lyrics and melodies as one. This is one of those songs. From the beautiful guitar opening, through the meaning filled words, taking in the strings and complimenting each other perfectly. This video blends stark random images that somehow make the whole song resonate...

The Beginning of something beautiful
Montag looked at the roller blades that lay at the bottom of his bed. They sparkled in the early evening light, showing off the metallic rainbow colours that he had painted them with earlier that day.
This was it, he was finally doing something. A week ago he had been an ordinary person. A job that drained any life he had in him and paid him barely enough to get by. That chance meeting with...

Rain
He stood looking out over the car park, watching as the neighbours from downstairs tried to squeeze their car into a space that was way too small for their large car. The rain made the tarmac glisten in the glare of the headlights as the car was thrown between reverse and first gear, over and over again. Eventually the girl got out of the passenger side and tried in vain to shelter from the...

Looks
It wasn’t that long ago that when you looked at me your eyes danced like sparks in a flame. There was no need for me to worry about us as I saw how you felt in each and every look. Did you see the same from me? Or did the darkness that gnaws at my soul, cloud the love I felt for you and kept it hidden from view? If so then I am truly sorry. That seems like a lifetime away now. Your eyes...

Desire
The scent of your freshly washed skin clings to my memory as I watch you leave. Emptiness fills me more than I could ever have thought.
Hours before, we had never met, never spoke but had seen each other around. At least thats what you told me and in thrall to my animal side, I agreed and smiled.
It was easier than I had expected, you had done the running. I was merely along for the ride. ...
